With immense gratitude and humility, the Oaks Revitalization Association (ORA) is honored to share that we were recognized at LiUNA’s Annual Industry Awareness event, held yesterday at their impressive new Vaughan HQ.

It is with great pride that we received the Vic Soncin Employer Appreciation Award, a recognition that reflects the dedication, passion, and hard work our team pours into supporting individuals from marginalized communities and helping them find meaningful careers.

This award means so much to us, as it comes from an organization deeply rooted in building and bettering the very communities we aim to serve. LiUNA represents a powerhouse built by labour for labour, serving more than 70,000 members, retirees, and families who work tirelessly to build and strengthen our city, our province, and our country. To be recognized by an organization with such a proud history of improving lives is an honor we hold close to our hearts. The ORA is proud to stand alongside this incredible network of individuals, working together to create real opportunities for growth and revitalization.

We were also thrilled to see Caleb Mokua Onyancha receive the Apprentice of the Year award. Caleb’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. He is a shining example of what hard work, perseverance, and support can accomplish. His dedication to mastering his craft in the skilled trades is a reflection of what the ORA strives to achieve every day—helping people not just find jobs, but build careers and futures they can be proud of.

The event was made even more special by the presence of several distinguished guests. We had the privilege of being joined by General President Brent Booker, General Secretary Treasurer Michael F. Sabitoni, International Vice President, Canadian Director, and Regional Manager Joseph Mancinelli, Business Manager Jack Oliveira, and the Executive Board. Their leadership and support mean so much to us, and it is thanks to partnerships like these that our mission continues to grow stronger. We are grateful for their unwavering belief in our work and their commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of so many.

This event and the recognition we received are truly a reflection of the collaboration and shared vision we have with LiUNA. Together, we are making strides toward a future where every person, no matter their background, has the opportunity to succeed. We are creating pathways that lead to stable, well-paid careers, revitalizing communities, and offering hope to those who need it most.

To everyone who attended the event and to all those who continue to support our work—thank you. Your belief in the power of change and in the strength of community is what allows us to continue growing and evolving. Together, we will keep building, keep striving, and keep making a lasting impact for generations to come.

The Vic Soncin Employer Appreciation Award is not just a recognition of our past efforts—it’s a promise to continue moving forward with the same dedication, heart, and determination that has brought us this far. We are proud to be part of this journey, and we look forward to all that lies ahead.

Under the leadership of Premier Doug Ford’s government, Ontario is building a workforce that is strong, skilled, and reflective of our province’s diversity. A workforce where youth from marginalized communities can access real careers, earn real wages, and contribute to a prosperous Ontario.

At The ORA, we believe knowledge and training are the first steps toward independence and empowerment. When you learn a skill, you’re not just gaining a job. You’re discovering options.

Today, our clients had the incredible opportunity to hear from Mr. Jack Oliveira, Business Manager of LiUNA Local 183, a leader who has lived the journey, earned the respect, and built a legacy through hard work and loyalty. His message was simple, strong, and unforgettable: “You can sleep when you’re dead.”

Training isn’t about getting everything right the first time. It’s about showing up, trying, failing, learning, and coming back stronger the next day.

In the skilled trades, success starts long before the first tool hits the ground. It begins with showing up, early, prepared, and ready to work. Being on time isn’t just about the clock; it’s about respect, for yourself, your crew, and the craft you’re building.

In the skilled trades, every day brings something real. You can see the results of your effort — a wall built, a room finished, a foundation laid strong and steady. That’s pride. That’s purpose.
