2023 Wrap-Up

ORA • December 22, 2023

As the year draws to a close, we at the ORA take a moment to reflect on the challenges we’ve faced, the successes we’ve celebrated, and the journey we’ve shared. It’s a time to acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and the collective spirit that has driven us forward.

The path to reducing recidivism and supporting justice-involved individuals is not without its obstacles. We've faced the familiar hurdle of limited opportunities in the skilled trades sector and the ongoing need for more employees in this vital area. These challenges remind us of the importance of our mission and the need to persevere.

Despite these challenges, we are immensely proud of our accomplishments. A standout success this year has been our ability to help 26 individuals begin rewarding careers in the skilled trades. This achievement is more than just a number; it represents 26 transformed lives, 26 families positively impacted, and a significant contribution to society as a whole. Each of these individuals is a testament to the possibility of change and the power of second chances.

Moreover, we take pride in our ability to demonstrate a tangible return on investment for each client. This not only speaks to the effectiveness of our programs but also underlines the value of our work to our stakeholders and the broader community.

As we look forward to the new year, our commitment remains steadfast. We are dedicated to elevating as many clients as possible into the Canadian middle class through the skilled trades, recognizing this path as a cornerstone for building stable, fulfilling lives.

In this season of joy and reflection, we extend our warmest wishes for Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas to all our clients, partners, and members of the public. Your support and belief in our mission fuel our drive and make our achievements possible.

Let us step into the new year with renewed hope, determination, and the shared vision of creating a more inclusive, prosperous society for all.

Today, our clients had the incredible opportunity to hear from Mr. Jack Oliveira, Business Manager of LiUNA Local 183, a leader who has lived the journey, earned the respect, and built a legacy through hard work and loyalty. His message was simple, strong, and unforgettable: “You can sleep when you’re dead.”

Training isn’t about getting everything right the first time. It’s about showing up, trying, failing, learning, and coming back stronger the next day.

In the skilled trades, success starts long before the first tool hits the ground. It begins with showing up, early, prepared, and ready to work. Being on time isn’t just about the clock; it’s about respect, for yourself, your crew, and the craft you’re building.

In the skilled trades, every day brings something real. You can see the results of your effort — a wall built, a room finished, a foundation laid strong and steady. That’s pride. That’s purpose.
